Akuvi – Norway

Akuvi’s career path runs through Cape Town, Oslo and Accra— in a blend of Afrobeats grooves, Hip Hop cadence, and Soul-torn vocals, underlined by lyrics that are less about escape and more about confrontation.

Born to a family where artistic expression is as natural as breath, she’s the daughter of a Ghanaian-Norwegian artist, a Northern Norwegian mother, and sister to stage powerhouse Anna-Lisa Kumoji. But what sets Akuvi apart is her approach to songwriting, inspired by Burna Boy, Jorja Smith, and Lauryn Hill. Her sound is an ecosystem of everything she is — a hopeless romantic in a Tinder-dominated world, a North-South nomad finding her voice in between the continents, and the quiet socio-political acts of speaking soft truths with clarity.

She comes from a musical family, where artistic expression through song, dance, and the arts has always been a natural part of life. Her creative journey has been about finding strength in vulnerability by transforming emotional diary pages into honest, soulful, and fierce music, mirroring the experience of being a young African-Norwegian artist. Akuvi is a woman of many traits. She has a master’s degree in social science, specializing in political science and the sociology of religion. A degree she attained while pursuing her music career in Cape Town, 2015-2018.
