Selmor Mtukudzi is a multi award winning singer, songwriter and actress from Zimbabwe. Her music has won her numerous awards in her home country and abroad. Selmor is the daughter of the late Zimbabwean National Hero and Legendary Musician Dr Oliver Mtukudzi. She started singing at a tender age of 10 which saw her appearing in local films and dramas such as,” I Am The Future”, which featured at local cinemas. After completing school, she worked with bands like Kwekwe Band, Jabavu Drive, Tanga Wekwa Sando and Pax Afro.
In 2008 Selmor released her debut album titled “Shungu”. The album did very well to introduce her arrival on the music scene as a solo artist. She went on to release 2 joint albums with her musician husband Tendai Manatsa titled Selmor and Tendai “Live” in 2011, which was recorded in front of a live audience at the 7 Art Theatre in Harare and “Ndinewe” (I Am With You), in 2012. Her 4th album “Expressions”, released in 2013 became an instant hit with the track “Nguva Yangu” being nominated for the NAMA Awards and the ZIMA Awards and winning the Africa Entertainment Awards USA for Hottest Single of the Year and Zimbabwe Chamber of Commerce WECA Award of the Year.
Following the passing on of her father, Dr Oliver Mtukudzi on 23 January 2019, Selmor released her sixth album titled Dehwe Renzou in January 2020 which features the track Mandidzimbira which is a dedication to her father. The album was produced by Steve Dyer, one of Africa’s greatest producers and her father’s long time friend. Also featured on the album is South African super star Vusi Mahlasela and some of the members of her father’s backing band, Picky Kasamba, Never Mpofu and Sam Mataure. Selmor’s passion for uplifting and amplifying girls and women’s voices has led her to form her own trust called Vabvana Trust. She believes that when you empower a woman you empower a nation.
