Endre Dalen is an editor, journalist, curator and graphic designer based in Oslo, Norway. He has been acquainted with the Oslo Mela Festival for numerous years and the related cultural center Melahuset.
Since 2001, icons such as Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Manu Chao and Ravi Shankar have performed at Oslo Mela. The festival has been a springboard for underground talent from a diverse range of genres, ranging from rap music from the suburbs of Oslo, or kuduro from Lisbon, to South African house. Dalen now serves as adviser and editor for the two institutions.
However, simultaneously he is employed as editor for Samora Forum, Northern Europe’s longest running magazine highlighting issues of migration, racism, cultural diversity, also through art forms such as music, film and literature.
In addition he’s writing for the Oslo based newspaper Klassekampen and jazz journal Jazznytt, as well as Africa Is a Country and other publications. His writings are mainly concerning worldwide music and literature—the connections between the two being an important interest. In turn DJ-ing became the natural evolution of mediating the music, art and literature he loves.
