Associate Immigration Attorney - CoveyLaw (USA)
David Amar is an Associate Immigration Attorney at CoveyLaw. He focuses his practice on preparing O and P visa petitions within the firm’s performing arts division. At CoveyLaw, David has prepared over eight hundred successful work visa petitions, providing US work authorization to thousands of performing artists and their essential support staff around the globe. He specializes in petitions for musicians, but also has extensive experience with theatrical productions, dance, circuses, comedians, performance artists, celebrity chefs, and more. He represents his clients before US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the US Department of State, and US Customs and Border Protection.
Having grown up in Canada, David has first-hand experience negotiating the US immigration process. As well, he has worked in various facets of entertainment, IP and employment law, where he has advised entities ranging from independent musicians, to a major publishing corporation, to an early-stage tech startup. He has provided pro bono services with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, to his local food cooperative, and often works as a volunteer attorney with Tamizdat. David was a professional musician and chef before embarking on his legal career, and still has his hands directly in both those fields as often as his time allows.
David holds a B.A.(hons) from Victoria College at the University of Toronto and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, where he was published in the Brooklyn Journal of International Law. He is admitted to the New York State Bar, and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
