Lwandile Dominic Nkanyuza (born 30 June 1995), known professionally as ByLwansta, is a South African storyteller, rapper, record producer, art director and multimedia designer born in Kokstad, KwaZulu-Natal.
Having begun his journey in music in 2008, 13 year old ByLwansta was writing and recording music from the backroom of his mother’s house, alongside his older brother, producer, and songwriter, Kimosabe. Under his mentorship, ByLwansta (then just Lwansta) nurtured his new-found interest, leading the brothers to record and release several demo mixtapes and that they would distribute independently in their local communities through CDs and bluetooth. ByLwansta carried this work ethic and energy throughout his musical journey.
Since then, he has moved on to performances at events such as Pop-Kultur Festival (Berlin), Kitsune Afterwork (Paris), UMI – Our Music Festival (JHB), Zakifo International Music Festival (DBN), and more. He is the first South African artist to appear on the international music platform, COLORS, and the second African artist after Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer, Davido.
